There are a lot of strong Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring, but you may have missed these ones.
Most Elden Ring players know about the strongest Spirit Ashes, like Mimic Tear or Black Knife Tiche. We’re not here to tell you not to use those calls, because they can pretty much win fights on their own. But Elden Ring has a lot of different Spirit Ashes, and each one has its own pros and cons.
Even though most of them might not be as good all the time as the big names, they can do as well or better in some situations. Here are some great Spirit Ashes that you may have missed.
Spirit Jellyfish Ashes
- Cost: 31 FP
Spirit Jellyfish is the Spirit Ash that costs the least. At first glance, this ghostly sea creature seems to be floating around you without any particular purpose. But her health pool is surprisingly high, and if she has enough time to hit, she can poison her enemies. Spirit Jellyfish doesn’t have any amazing powers or do a lot of damage, but for what she costs, she’s surprisingly good.
As a bonus, this Spirit Summon comes with its own mini-questline, the end of which gives you a unique action. Talk to Roderika when you first meet her at Stormhill Shack to get the Spirit Jellyfish Ashes for free. This can be done almost as soon as you start Elden Ring game.
Skeletal Militiaman Ashes
- Cost: 44 FP
At first view, the Skeletal Militiaman Ashes don’t look like they are anything special. They are a pair of spear-wielding monsters who do about what you’d expect: they do average damage and die pretty quickly.
But the Skeletal Militiamen have a special power that none of the other skeletons in the Lands Between have: they can come back to life after dying. And, unlike you, enemy NPCs don’t know that hitting their dead bodies kills them for good. So, unless someone accidentally hits them, your skeleton friends can keep coming back to life. If you want to annoy the bosses in Elden Ring, you can get these Ashes from the Tibia Mariner in Summonwater Village early in the game.
Warhawk Ashes
- Cost: 52 FP
Do you remember when you had to fight those huge birds in Stormveil Castle? The ones with swords connected to their legs who always fly just out of reach of your weapons? Well, it turns out that many of your enemies have trouble fighting you in the same way. Unless they have hitboxes the size of buildings or attacks with a huge area of effect, it will be hard to hit the Warhawk. So, despite having low health, this Spirit summon is incredibly strong and can keep enemies away from it for a long time.
To get the Warhawk, you have to figure out the Prophecy painting puzzle. The picture is in a room near the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace in Stormveil Castle. The painter is on the Weeping Peninsula, north of the Church of Pilgrimage.
Blackflame Monk Amon Ashes
- Cost: 115 FP
The Blackflame Monk Amon isn’t very mobile or tough, which isn’t usually a good sign for a Spirit Summon, but he does a lot of damage. The Blackflame effect, which does damage over time based on the enemy’s total health, is applied by Amon’s Godslayer Incantations during CO Mbat. Because of this, Amon is a good option to Tiche, whose Blade of Death skill has the same effect.
Amon is one of the last Spirit Ashes you can find, which may be the main reason you don’t hear more about him. He’s in a hidden area inside a hidden area. You have to use the Haligtree Secret Medallion to get to the Hidden Path to the Haligtree, then use the unseen paths to get to the Stray Mimic Tear boss, who drops Amon’s Ashes.
Fanged Imp Ashes
- Cost: 50 FP
Since it can be picked as a Keepsake, the Fanged Imp is the first Spirit Ash you can get in Elden Ring. If you don’t do that, you can buy it from the Isolated Merchant in Raya Lucaria Academy, who is south of the Main Academy Gate Site of Grace. If you take the path around Stormveil Castle, you can get there without killing anyone, but if that’s your plan, you might as well take the Keepsake.
You might not want to use the Fanged Imp Ashes because you can get them so quickly. But even though they have low health, the fact that they can cause Bleed to build up is a strong advantage. In the long run, you’ll be better off with stronger ways to cause bleeding, such as the Omenkiller Rollo or the Mimic Tear, but you won’t be able to use them until much later in the game. The Fanged Imp is great for killing Elden Ring’s early bosses due to its mix of accessibility and raw damage potential.
Banished Knight Engvall Ashes
- Cost: 100 FP
Everyone likes Banished Knight Oleg and his two straight swords, but it’s also important to show some love to his co-star, Engvall. In a lot of ways, Engvall is like a cheaper version of Oleg. They both cost the same number of FP, and Engvall looks a little tougher, but Oleg does more damage and is more offensive, which is often what you want from a Spirit Summon.
Engvall, on the other hand, is much easier to get. To get him, you have to kill the Grave Warden Duelist boss in Limgrave’s Murkwater Catacombs. Oleg can be found even earlier, but it’s a pain to get him even at much higher levels. To get into the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave, you need to spend two Stonesword Keys, get past the Chariot and Spectral Soldiers, and then kill the Ulcerated Tree Spirit boss at the end. For a Spirit Summon at the end of the game, Oleg is probably the best choice, but Engvall is almost as good for a lot less work.
Rotten Stray Ashes
- Cost: 35 FP
Scarlet Rot builds up on your enemies when they are near the Rotten Stray. In the late game, you will face numerous bosses that are either immune to Scarlet Rot or deal so much damage that the Rotten Stray will die almost instantly (or both). But the Rotten Stray will work hard against early bosses like Margit, the Fell Omen. Part of the reason for this is that you shouldn’t be able to use Scarlet Rot so early in Snake Game, so the bosses don’t have any real defense against it.
If you can distract the boss long enough for Rotten Stray’s status effect to happen even once, Scarlet Rot will eat away at the boss’s health. If you know where to go, you can get it without having to fight any enemies. In Caelid, the Sellia Under-Stair Site of Grace is a short walk to the north. You can get most of the way there by using the transfer trap in Limgrave’s Dragon-Burnt Ruins.
Dolores The Sleeping Arrow Puppet
- Cost: 87 FP
Dolores’ claim to fame, as her name suggests, is that she can make people sleep, which is a rare status affect. Many enemies and some bosses can be put to sleep by her arrows, which makes fights that would otherwise be hard much easier. Some bosses are totally immune to the status effect, but many more will at least be temporarily stunned, giving you a chance to deal free damage.
Dolores is a doll that Selivus has, and there are a few ways to get her. If you make Nepheli a doll for him, you can get her for free (or buy her later for five Starlight Shards). You can also give Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade and wait until he and Pidia both die. If you didn’t change Nepheli, you can take Dolores the Sleeping Arrow Puppet from Pidia’s body.
Stormhawk Deenh Ashes
- Cost: 47 FP
Stormhawk Deenh is a lot like the Warhawk, but it is better. It’s just as hard to hit as before, but it takes less FP to do so. Most importantly, when Deenh is called (and sometimes after that), he will use a war cry that increases your physical damage and makes it 20 percent easier to break an enemy’s poise. It’s important to know that Deenh’s power doesn’t work together with aura buffs like Golden Vow. So, if you’re using one of those, you should choose a different Spirit Summon.
But Deenh is one of the best buffs you can get for a low-mind melee fighter. To get back to the beginning of the game and find the Stormhawk’s Ashes, go through the “Precipice of Anticipation” waygate at The Four Belfries. The chest with Deenh’s ashes is on a ledge above where you start a new character.
Greatshield Soldier Ashes
- Cost: 74 FP
The Greatshield Soldier Ashes call up five troops with Greatshields. When fighting smaller enemies, like Elemer of the Briar or the Godskin Noble in Volcano Manor, these simple soldiers can form a wall that can’t be broken through. This lets you hit from a safe distance.
They usually get killed by giant enemies whose attacks can get around their shields. Against Malenia, their ability to stay alive is actually a disadvantage, since Waterfowl Dance will heal her full health bar every time they hit her. Still, if you play with a long build, the Greatshield Soldier is one of the best tanking choices you have. This Spirit Ash is in a graveyard near the Siofra River Well Site of Grace in Nokron, the Eternal City.
